Elm sapling D bow
« on: December 01, 2014, 07:02:13 pm »
It started as a 1 1/2 wide American Elm sapling....1 1/4" wide at the handle, 1/2" nocks w/ small Cherokee style nocks,    and slightly flipped tips, I added a couple of inches of reflex and it's settled in with no string follow, 64" ntn, 55# @  25" I still need to take some weight off the tips (a little hand shock ) and do all the fine finish work but it shoots nice. Just wanted to share and get some critiques. Thanks

Nice work. How come you decided to make it bend in the handle?

That's a stout little elm stick.  Nice tiller too.  Thanks for sharing.

I like that bow allot. What type elm is it? Did you notice any dark purple color heartwood when cutting it?

Hey Sleek,
From what I can tell, it's American Elm. There's no color to the heart wood. Here's a pic of the belly that I have handy.

I didn't mention it in the first post but the 2nd pic is the handle area...you can see my center and arrow pass pencil marks.
