Bendy handle bow question

Good morning all. I have a quick question about dimensions for a bend through the handle bodark short bow. My stave is 54"long, 1 3/4" wide, and has about 3 1/2" of reflex. I roughed out the belly last night so it's about 3/4"from belly to crown. Lots of crown. So my question is, what now? Do I flare in for the handle or leave it wide and thin? And how about final dimensions? I draw about 29", will I be able to get that much out of this stave? I'm hoping for about 40# @ 29", but I'll settle for a shorter draw if I have to. I appreciate any input ya'll can give me. Thanks- RR.

You could narrow the width a little but that might come with thinning the belly. You can narrow the handle a bit so it is comfortable to hold and shoot.
29" is a bit much for a 54" bow. You'd be better with 26" to 27". A slight kick of both tips will make a longer draw more comfortable to shoot.

Your bow could probably be 1 1/4" at the handle and taper to your tips.
it takes very little osage to make a 40# bow.
You probably wont get anymore than 26"
if you flip your tips to help with string angle you could
maybe get a little more.

i agree the 29 is a little much, I have found that with the bendy handle not being so deep,, your draw may be shorter,, and it wont take much to get used to the shorter draw of your bow,,

Here is a build-a-long I did on a 52" bendy handled bow with a narrowed handle. Maybe it will help you out a little

Good advice given. If you have a full 1 3/4" of width I would go with a bendy pyramid. 1 1/4" handle and the full width at the fades. Wide and thin is a very good option for Osage. I wouldn't try for more than 27" of draw. A little flip right out on the end of the tips will help.

I recently made and have been shooting a 46"ntn black locust r/d 45#@25", so I think if you flip the tips and take your time the more stable wood could pull through.

Black locust. Black locust everywhere.
Mollegabets all day long.
Might as well make them short, save some wood to keep warm.
