Id like to see a how to on feather backing. I get they're laid over like shingles but how much do you trim off the feather and how does it feel when done,  smooth or rough? How much glue do you use, do you let the glue get a little tacky then set the feathers on? Do you coat with glue over them or seal them on with tru oil? I really love the look.

Thanks everybody again.  Y'all are the masters.  I guess I just got lucky with this one.  By the wayis unbacked, and I don't have a subscription, Dan.    I have learned so much from everybody on this sight.  So I will share some tricks.

I started by painting the back of the bow black. This helps incase there are any feather separations. 
Then I select feathers that are right next to each other. That's so they are the same size.  They must be about the width of the bow. Then I trim the quill to stop right after it's under the next feather.   I put the glue down about 2-3 in in front of the feathers. Then lay them down links shingles.  I work both sides at once. So the feathers are the same size and symmetrical on each limb.

It it smooth, however tur oil would have made it 3x better

I've made a few feather backed bows, and I have found that the glue that your use needs to be harder or as hard as the finished you apply over it.  I once used a glue softer than the epoxy finish coat I used, and the finish cracked in cold weather.  I now only lay/glue in the feathers with the same epoxy coating I use as a finish.  I have always wondered if this backing was considered "a backed" bow or not.  I'm still not sure???? I'm working on a pair of his and hers bows for my daughter and her husband that I'm going to feather back, hopefully I can get them finished by Christmas... I have been working on them almost a year.....::) :-[ :-[ :)  Again that's is a real nice looking tiller and good looking finish work.   :)  You just need a little more practice with your leather wraps.
