A Shout of Thanks
« on: November 11, 2014, 09:50:19 am »
A few years ago several thousand of my brothers, sisters and I
camped out far away.
I'd like to say thanks to them for getting me back home alive.
I would sure like to see some pics. Not just from my gig but
from any and all outings. Please post em if you have them.
I am no longer ashamed. They created a day just for us. lol

Ft Rucker 1967

There is a story behind those stripes. The career platoon sergeant got busted back to private, I had a year of ROTC so they pressed me into service as acting platoon sergeant. In my platoon I had Black Panthers from Chicago, gang members from LA, a host of would be criminals and other assorted malcontents. Somehow a wimpy 19 year old Eric managed to keep them in line and get them through AIT at Rucker.

As acting platoon sergeant I could promote my men so I promoted every single man, 30 or 40 of them, when we finished AIT, kinda' rankled the brass but they made up the rules.

Thanks to all of you who served. I got the pleasure to take a veteran to dinner last night. It is always a great time to take my dad out for a nice dinner.
