Finished my bow
« on: November 07, 2014, 04:14:16 pm »
Now I don't pretend to be a pro, more like someone with a new passion, doing something I have yearned for , for a long time. I always wanted to build a primitive bow and hunt with it. While I didn't get a shot at a deer today I accomplished a couple of goals. I built a bow that shoots darn well and I took it hunting with me. I was so excited to be there, in the woods with this bow, I felt like a little kid. All I know I'll be building many more and learning more from it. I want to thank everyone who has graciously offered advice and I want to encourage anyone that is thinking they can't do it, to give it a try. It was a blast and I'm very impressed with my arrow flight. When I was done for the day I shot the bow some at longer distances than I do back home, to judge the arrow flight and I was real happy watching the arrow hit it's mark on more occasions than not.
I find that this is the true archery/hunting experience that many are missing out on. Build your own bow, arrows and hunt with it. Now that is organic in every way.

Bow is all Osage with cloth snake skins, hemp cord wrap, didn't come out too shabby, next time I'll try real skins.

Very nice work!  Agree 100% that it's a special feeling you get from making your own bow and arrows.

Good enough, no worries!
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.

Great job man.  I love the vintage look of how narrow the handle is.  Very nice.

It is actually my third bow, amazing how much you learn from bow to bow. My influences are the bows of our Native Americans and how they lived.
