Screech owl

Pulled out of the drive way this morning and only went about 30 yards when I see something in the road. I stopped with the headlights on it and it just sat there. I got out and snapped a few pictures of it. It let me get pretty close before it flew off into the woods. It was a cool experience. I've seen a couple owls hunting this year. They must be increasing in numbers in our area.

Rich , I disagree pound for pound they are the loudest scariest bird there is
I have seen more than a few grown men jump out of their souls when one cut loose on a nighttime coon hunt! I may or may not have been one of those fellas. Thanks for sharing pics.

Ever hunt doves? Or like in my case, shot
toward
doves? Not easy to hit consistently. Now imagne trying to follow a
bat
with your shotgun and getting a good hit on one of them!
Well, screech owls catch bats in flight. That defines bada$$!

I don't think anything will top the beaver encounter. Sometimes I just have a way with animals

Thanks for sharing the critters Ace.
I got scratched up by one when I was around 8-9 years old.

Used to have a camp spot with a Screech Owl there. Wasn't a trip until nite and he'd light up the forest. My oldest daughter hated him! For some reason it always scared the crap out of her. It always said 'Welcome' to the rest of us.
