"Wild Oak" Turkey Backed Bow - Full Draw Added!
« on: October 22, 2014, 02:21:44 pm »
After long last, I finally got to finish out the turkey feather backed oak board bow I've been working on. It finished out at #50 @ 28", which is where I was hoping to be. I used an antler base topped off with a turkey feather rest to hold the arrows, and a squirrel fur strike plate, from the leg where the skin is really tough, but the fur short. I finished off the wild theme with squirrel tail silencers. I shot the bow in before attaching them, and I was really surprised how much they work. The bow shots dead silent and sends them where they I want with a good thump. Tips are maple finished clear for some contrast.

Thanks to all who post on here showing us rookies how things should be done.

Cheers!

I hear ya! It's tough to draw and shoot a pic at the same time! I'm working on getting one because I'd like to see it drawn in my own hands as well!

Stay tuned...

That is the most interesting arrow rest I have seen...Good job on the feathering on the limbs. Better be careful a bobcat doesn't attack your bow with the all natural look of turkey, deer and squirrel ;)...Check back in later to see full draw, brace looks good.

Here's the money shot! Top limb looks a little stiffer, but I think it's how it's canted in the pic. Shoots better and better every time I take it out though, so I don't think I'll mess with it.

Appreciate the comments!

Take care.

Haha! Thanks, I've been working on it for years!! On a serious note, I have to be careful with my mug due to my job. Besides, it's too ugly for the internet!

Looks good, cool and different kind of finish work, never seen tips done that way before. Maybe a little stiff mid top limb but ha,if it shoots to suite you go with it. :)

Nice work!
Talking trees. What do trees have to talk about, hmm... except the consistency of squirrel droppings?
