One more finished bow today. . .
« on: October 21, 2014, 01:00:02 am »
Here is one more bow today--there seem to be a lot.  This one doesn't hold a candle to many that I have seen, except for one point--I get to shoot it, and not the rest of yours.  This bow is a number of firsts for me.
First osage stave.
First attempt at heat bending wood.
First recurve.
First self bow.
This bow is 62" nock-to-nock, and 1 3/8 inches wide, tapering in the last 10 inches to just under 1/2 an inch. It draws 50 lbs. at 29 inches.  It features a bending handle with a built-up cork grip wrapped in leather.  The tip overlays are of rosewood. the draw feels smooth to me and the release has just a little bit of shock, but not at all severe.  And it seemed to me that my arrows were flying just a little straighter today.  I am sure that is not an illusion.  Thanks so much to everyone on this site who helped me.  I learned a ton from all of you.

And here are the unstrung and full draw pics.  I don't have a name for it yet.

Very sharp! I like the shape. What are the tip overlays made from? Full draw??? Patrick

Whoops!  Tiller looks great to me! I'm fixing to make my first bendy myself.

I am pretty sure the tip overlays are rosewood.

Awesome work Jeff. Now every other bow you make will be held to the standard of that one. Great work, I am waiting to see the next one you build.

It is a rune stone.  I taught a history of the German Language course a few years back and a couple of students made this as their final project.  In Old Norse it says roughly "This stone was made for Professor Packer"
