New guy here but I've been reading up on low tech stick bows or D bows as they are also called. Next thing you know, I'm out in my local bush, eyeballing lots of Maple, Shagbark Hickory, Beech and Cascara Sagrada. Hunting for what appears to be a good candidate for a D bow, is fun and takes a lot of looking.
Before I knew what time it was I had cut 7 or 8 staves, armed only with the awesome little saw on my EDC SAK. Damn, the bug had bitten deep. Wiping the sweat off my forehead, I started stripping some bark and taking some exploratory thin shavings off a few of them.
Dudes, I was Hooked.
I still have to download the pics I took of them, to my Photobucket or Flicker account so I can post the link for y'all in here to share my humble, I did say I was going basic, attempt at creating a workable bow or three. I'll get on that in the next wee while.
Also, I want to say Thank You to all the boys in here that have contributed to my bow-build'n education through this way cool forum. Y'all know who you are eh.
All the best,
bg
