Rockwell bandsaw
« on: October 12, 2014, 05:13:46 pm »
Just bought a Rockwell 28-290 14" bandsaw at an estate sale. $125.
Is this a good deal? I believe it is a '66.

It sounds like a bargain to me but I don't know crap about Band saws except bigger is better. And older ones usually are, too.

I'd say that was a good one. I think you did good. What HP is it?

That's a solid saw.  Are the tires and guides in good shape?
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

I'll be honest i haven't given it a good inspection. I had a guy breathing down my neck wanting it so it was a buy it now or never. He tried to hoodoo me out of it but it didn't work. >:D I'll give it a good look later when I get a chance. My uncles said it was a deal so I jumped.

I have an almost identical one and love it.  Sounds like you got a good price too.

Good thats what I hoped to hear. It needs a new sharp blade. I can't wait to put it to good use. Before this all i had was a hacksaw and a chainsaw.

Very nice buddy! Not too bad of a deal,  I paid less for mine but would have paid a lot more. I picked up two tires for mine online for about $35 and I got my blade local for about $15. The blade length is 96 1/2".  It's 96 long and 1/2 wide but will take 3/8 or a 1/4 nicely.  I had to have the machine shop at my work make me the center cap where the blade rides on the table top but that's it. Nice thing about them is you can still get parts for them.  They were made when you could go down to the hardware store and pick up bearings and such. Check out this thread. I posted mine back in June. Congrats and happy sawing you will love it.

You got a GREAT deal on it. That one is a "classic" of bandsaws. The '57 Chevy of stationary power tools. It was made back when Rockwell International owned both Delta and Porter Cable power tools. And a Baldor is a solid motor. That bandsaw you can get parts for all over the place. Bearings can be had at any place like Kaman or places like that. Those bandsaws are going to outlast the whole fleet of B-52 bombers.

Nice saw; great deal.  I'd much rather find an old saw like that rather than buy a new, Chinese saw.  Kinda like drawknives.....
