like everybody said, Black Palm. I have two of them, one with the original Rhododendron string.

If you have to pull the trigger, is it really archery?

With all these black palm bows out there, it would be nice to find a source for black palm staves so we could copy the bows!!!

Haha I'm DYING to know who made it, where and when. I really want to use it too, but I definitely wouldn't want to ruin it. I did read about the proper way to break in an old bow again, but like I said, I don't want it ruined. I really appreciate any advice and input I can get.

Also, am I correct about which side is which? I just want to be sure.

Here are some photos of the string and size of the bow.  It's interesting they way they tillered this bow.  It tapers gradually in width and on the belly instead of a gradual even thickness taper they completely dropped through a growth ring about every 6" or so along the entire length of the bow.

Black palm.
Funnily enough I just got my first black palm board. I'm trying a bamboo backed recurve from it. It's very dense towards the center of the tree, less dense the closer you get to the outside.

Very cool bow! Its interesting to see an artifact like that.

I done a quick Google search and found some black palm for sale. It's kinda pricey but available. It is in board from 1" x 4.2 " x 79" and weighs
11.7 lbs. I also read that it's a little tough on tools and they need to be really sharp. Patrick

That looks like a split bamboo string. I shoot mine, made a B-50 string after I broke the original string. It shoots good with a long arrow and a arm bracer. Brace height is around 3-4".
