No problem, shoot me a pm if you need any help and I'll do my best. I kinda figured it out as I went then took measurements and wrote them down. Patrick

Thought I would bring this back up to the top. Several of the guys that was at Marshall was pretty interested in building their own caul like this.
I feels good to have made something like this that so many people have complemented me on.

Patrick even managed to finagle a way to do a straight REFLEX with this same caul last weekend using a couple squeeze clamps, a bow string, a screwdriver handle, and some careful balance.  It was odd-burger, ...but it worked!

Thanks for the use of this caul Patrick. I am finishing up my bow from this caul. Hopefully it will be done in the next week. I will try and post some pictures of it.

Patrick, it was really great spending some time with you and Eric!  Both of you spend way way too much time working at MoJam.. while I spend most of my time playing while there.   (SH)
I have my wood for the caul build.  I have never made the part, that you actually shape the bow on, more than 1 1/2" wide, but yours is 3" wide.  I asked you about it but I'm still wondering if, after all of the times it has been used, you still feel the need for the extra width ?  How did you decide to make it that wide ?
thanks again!
Bob

Yes Bob,  I do think it needs to be that wide.  I do several character bows and I also straighten them some while shaping them to the caul.  I use the joint of the two 2x's as a center line so I know im Bending the tips and handle in a straight line.  Short of a couple of tip flipping cauls I've  only made this one.
It may take me a bit to get the pictures fixed on this thread.  I have to get them off of photo bucket and uploaded to imgur then reposted.  I can trade my form shape and send it to you if you want.  Just let me know.

cool... I have only used my Gary Davis reflex caul for lining up tips/risers and inducing reflex... I can see how the extra base width could come in handy.  I'm babysitting my granddaughter this weekend but with build a caul once she goes home.
Thanks again!
