Straightening Arrows
« on: October 07, 2014, 11:20:07 pm »
I'm doing the first straightening on some Ocean Spray shoots that I collected in the spring. All the instructions I have received say to straighten them a bit at a time, letting them cool between sessions. Is there a problem with them springing back to their original shape when you heat them the second time? I know there is with bows, I'm not sure about arrows, being thinner and all.

If you don't let them cool first the shoots is apt to loose the straightening you just put in.
I will start with the 2 or 3 worst bends, heat and straighten them and set it aside to cool and get the next one. If you do this with 5 to 10 shoots the first ones probably have cooled enough to go after the next crooks with the heat. You can feel if the shoots are cool.

My goal is to not need heat. I unbundle them every few days and straighten. Eventually the changes register...maybe in a week.
