Got a sweet mailbox find today from Cowboy...
« on: September 18, 2014, 08:49:51 pm »
Got a box of killer random stuff from Cowboy in the mail today. Barely looked through it all before the flakes started flying. Not sure what the material is but I'm guessing it's from TX. Looks like if Pedernales and Georgetown had a baby.

The lovely victim.

Gettin' in there...

Carrying on

Starting to look point-ish

Def tougher more towards the center of the stone. (Note the addition of the band-aid, as this particular rock decided to bite me)

Looking like it's yet another point that shooooould have been bigger based on the size of the rock I started with. My signature move. Oh well, looking pretty thin...time to start some pressure.

It whispered in my ear that it wants to be a Hardin, so I'm going to oblige...

Starting the notching.

Really into punch notching lately.

How I hold it.

Not too bad...

Done

It and the little Horse Creek point I turned out this afternoon. That Horse Creek is humbling stuff. Made me look like a fool several times today.

Ya, he's a stand up fellow.

Zuma, I thought about fluting it but it whispered otherwise.

Good job on turning the rock Cowboy sent. I have heard of punch notch, but never realized exactly what til your pic. Also the Horse  Creek you are showing, is that natural or did you heat treat it.  By the way if you have debige 1x2 or bigger I would pay for the box sent,  just to see how real stone knapps.

Thanks. I didn't heat the Horse Creek but I'm pretty sure Paul did before he sent it. Pretty stuff but quite 'soft' compared to most cherts.

Looks like you're using your foot to hold down the point while using that punch.  Awesome.   ;D

Those look great bowmo! Can't wait to get home and whack some of that Hixton :). Has been a very pleasing trading experience. That's some lower grade Gtown I picked up from, wait for it......Georgetown, ha.. Look forward to seeing what else you come with out of that box..
