Brian, wild idea, but a guy on a colonial forum a couple of years ago got fellow forum members to help him build a historically inspired cabin in Kentucky in return for camping and get-together privileges. A lot of the volunteers just wanted to experience building a simple home of logs and hewn/sawn boards using the old methods. The way you describe that property, it might be ideal for this sort of project. If you don't have or can't run an Alaskan sawmill, I know there are many here who can. (I was just reading John Bybee's Iowan path thread.) Sounds to me like you have a lot of heart invested in that place worth trying to preserve. I'd help if I were closer.
