Snakeskin application without glue slop
« on: September 17, 2014, 04:28:44 pm »
I noticed a couple people have said that a bow must "earn" snakeskins with a couple hundred shots.
I'm wondering - how do you go about applying said skins without getting glue all over the place? For me, glue slop would require more sanding, which might change the tiller, or might mess up a stain job with glue already in the wood. I've got a bow shooting now, that i'm considering throwing skins on, any advice appreciated.

Mike.

Never had to sand or scrape enough after putting on skins for it to change anything.  :) I put most on with TB3 and you could scrape it off with you finger nail if you wanted to. :)

After applying mine a few weeks back I found that if you catch the glue in about the first hour it will just come right off. BUT, I also oiled my belly before adding skins.
If you always do what you always did you'll always get what you always got.

I like to use Titebond hide glue for my skins.

also you could tape off the belly with masking tape to make clean up easier,, I thought of this after I had to sand off some hide glue,,, :)
