Reporting In, but not quite ready for Duty...
« on: September 11, 2014, 02:38:05 pm »
Howdy Fellers,

Well we're finally Moved, if not Unpacked...   ::)
Have managed to get my Workbench set back up.
But have yet to make a Shaving...

The Universe is back to Throwing Unlookedfor Curve Balls...

I was Out of Action for much of August with Abdominal Issues.
Was just getting over that by Labor Day...

Then the Tuesday following Labor Day, my Uncle Bryan who is more like a Father to me, hit a 400+ Pound Wild Boar while riding his Harley to Work. The Wreck happened at 6:20am about five miles West of Wortham, Texas on Hwy 27... It was dark enough that he Probally never saw the Hog... The Speed limit being 70mph, the Hog is Dead and Bike is Totaled.

Uncle Bryan was Airlifted and has been in ICU at Bailer Scott & White over in Waco.
His biggest issue is a Collapsed Right Lung along with Multiple fractures in each of the Ribs covering it down to the Nineth Rib, followed by a few other broken bones... One in his Right Hand, a Fractured Right Scappula, two small fractures in the Vertabre of his Neck, an angry looking but Superficial Head Injury(He was wearing his Helmet) and a good bit of Road Rash.

He was Lucid and able to speak his name and the date upon arriving at the Hospital.
The Docs have since his arrival, had him in an induced coma and on a ventilator.
Taking it Day by Day, Issue by Issue.

Good Lord Willing he will pull through this...

Sorry to hear about your uncle's wreck.  A hog would be like hitting a brick wall.  Antelope are a problem here as they always like to run across the road in front of you.  We also have elk on the road between Meeteetse and Cody and they get run over at night.  They are hard to see! My prayers go out to your uncle and his family!  Joe

I hope your uncle has a full and quick recovery.  Man I can't imagine smacking a hog on a scooter! :o.   I hope you and yours get back to some semblance of normalcy soon.  Josh

What can be said...Hog on hog violence never has a good outcome.  Sounds like you have had a tough run lately, brother.  Good to know you are still in the game pitching!  We'll be there for you cheering!

Hope things turn around for you and your uncle.  Sounds like he is a tough guy to survive hitting a hog like that.

You might nick name your uncle Evel Knievle to cheer
him up as he recovers, which I pray for.
Keep your chin up and give us a good report soon.

Wish the best of luck to your uncle. My hunting buddy lost his leg in a motorcycle wreck just before the hunting season last year. He'll be good to go this season, and so will your uncle in time.

Thank You Fellas...

Just got back from the Hospital...
Take a few days to Recharge, Rearm, Straighten out my Lads and what not.
Then head back out.

Bryan (Uncle) is hanging in there buy Tooth and Nail.

Taken Separately his injuries wouldn't hold him down long.
However early on, the Docs thinking Infection likely in the collapsed lung, started him on
Powerful antibiotics. This along with the overall Shock to his system have shut down his Kidneys.
So that though they took him off the Heavy Sedative (Propofol) and Pain meds last Friday, and he opened his eyes Sunday, he remains about 95% unresponsive.
The docs also started him on Dialyses Friday.

In talking with one of the Docs yesterday their thoughts are:
The Head injury is not a threat to his lucidity.
The collapsed lung is slowly recovering, and his many fractures should mend given time.
They believe his mind and kidneys stand a good chance of returning to function, once the Dialyses catches him up.

Thank You for the Prayers and Well Wishes for Bryan.

I include him in our Brotherhood of The Bow, not because he builds or regularly shoots the Bow.
Rather that through his gift of a small piece Yellow Wood, He started me down the Path to Bow Building and ultimately to this Forum and Brotherhood.

Continued prayers for Uncle Bryan.

Anything I can do for you, Gus, you only have to ask.  I mean that, brother.

Thank Y'all for ALL the Prayers and Well Wishes!

I apologize for not updating this Thread sooner, but my plate has been Full.

Uncle Bryan Went Home the week before Thanksgiving!
Though he still had the Main Line installed in his Neck for Dialyses in case he needed to have another round.
He came back in to the Doctor for a Check Out the first week of December.
The tests showed his kidneys to be Working Well Enough again to be Released with NO Need of further Dialyses. So they removed the Main Line and Released him Fully!

So the Full Tally Was :
Seven Weeks in a Coma.
Two Weeks Stunned, Eyes Open but Nobody Home.
Two Weeks Slowly returning to Himself.
Now a Tough Year of Physical Theropy to Get Back In The Saddle...  :)

Right Torso Crushed, Lung Collapsed(Flayed Chest)
Ribs 2-9 Multiple Fractures.
Multiple Fractures in the First Metacarple, Bone that backs up the Index Finger (Right Hand).
Multiple Fractures Right Scapula.
Hematoma and Huge Lump Left Forehead. (WAS Wearing Helmet)...
Renal Failure at the Begining of week number Two.
Road Rash from Stim to Stern.
Fourteen Units of Whole Blood.
Died Twice on the Table on Day One...

He says his last memory was stepping aboard his Stunning Ultra Classic and heading out to work in the early morning, the day after Labor Day.
Then his next memory was waking up in The Hospital about Three weeks before Thanksgiving...

Today he is AT HOME!!!
With Family and Friends.
Almost back to his Ole Crotchetty Self.
Looking Forward to Retiring in Four Months!
168 Pounds of Solid Gold Onryness...

He was 63 years old and 225 Pounds on the day of the Crash.

He wont be throwing a 50 Pound sack of Feed over his shoulder to feed the cows any time soon.
But with Good Food, Physical Theropy and Shear Determination I predict he will be Back At It within a Year of the Accident.

Thank Y'all!
Thank The Maker!!!
Merry Christmas, Happy Honica, Good Yule!
