Tionesta Bow in Autumn Colors
« on: September 07, 2014, 04:43:06 pm »
My second bow ever, and my first with an awesome finish!  Bamboo backed yellow heart belly wood and riser with a flemish bowstring.  Shoots great!  Top limb working a bit more than the bottom.

47# at 27"
72" overall
69 1/2" NTN
1 1/4" limbs
3/8" tips

Finished in a Pennsylvania deep woods theme.  Yellow-brown finish with forest green elk hide handle.  Four coats each of sealer, oil, and wax.

My first bow was black locust on a tiller tree.  This bow was tillered by feel with no tree (except for the final weight check).  I feel fortunate to have experienced both methods so early as they offer a slightly different sense of accomplishment.  Next bow will be backed again, however I do have a little maple, bl, and oak seasoning.

Thanks for looking!

Nice bow Bryan, especially with no tiller tree!
You should really set one up, it takes 30 minutes,
and you need is a 2x4, pulley and rope!

Good job!

Good job.  Looks great!
Talking trees. What do trees have to talk about, hmm... except the consistency of squirrel droppings?

Great bow, beautiful finish my second was never that good.
...Maybe a little rounding of the very end of the tips would make 'em look as good as the rest of the bow?
Just sayin'... :-[
(everything past the string is excess weight)
Sorry if I'm sounding picky, but the string lines up in the groove at brace... at full draw is it snagging on the upper edge of the groove?. Dunno if you can see what I mean, but the string angles away from the bow as the draw increases, and you don't want it chaffing on the edge of the groove and wearing. (I'll run away and hide now...)

Thanks for all the great comments.  It feels good to be on the bow forum, and a little humbling as well.

Blackhawk - I've been keeping my eye on the Kennerdale shoot.  Hopefully, next year I'll make it.  We must be very close.  I'm in the Kittanning area.

straightarrow - Thanks for the invitation!  I would love to meet you guys, but can't make the 20th.  That's the day I'm getting my physically OK but has Althzeimers 86 year old Mom to spend time with her 95 year old physically struggling but super sharp minded brother.  Uncle Bus just won't stop.  Love him!

Del,

I see what you're saying about rounding the tips.  I checked out a few pics on here and like the look.  Thanks for the suggestion.  Will be done on my next bow.

I understand about the chaffing string comment.  Are you suggesting a less angled groove or something else?

That would be a great next bow theme - "Powered by Cat", in bright yellow and black of course.   ;)
