"Little"
« on: August 31, 2014, 12:58:57 am »
My buddy Darrell Little wanted a bow from me that he could hunt with and hang on his wall and pass down to his kids. He wanted a bow made from the coolest osage stave I could find with western diamond backs on the back and bison horn tips. This thing shoots fast and I added a nice little touch with the deerskin handle. 60# @ 30" 68" long with 1/2" string follow. Snakes and roller coasters and twist and knots and cracks, this thing gave me a run for my money but ended up a sweet shooter. This thing was pretty crazy and fun to make but definitely the most rewarding so far. Brown leather wrapped on ends of skins. White streaks in horn make it set out from the others. Darrell wanted to name it "Little" so his future family could know it was made with them in mind. I hope you all enjoy the eye candy and catch the snaky bug too!

That's a crooked roller coaster for sure ;) I like the handle wrap and was wondering if that is sinew pulling it together?

Genesis 27:3 Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison;

The bottom limb looks pretty good considering how hard it is to tiller a roller coaster limb. The top limb is a little stiff and could sure use a few scrapes for the first 8" out of the fades as this section isn't bending hardly at all.

It's all just osage no sinew. I was wondering if it was a little stiff but it had some reflex on that area and it seems to be bending good when I see it drawn but the picture does make it look stiff

Oh. Haha yep artificial sinew from Tandy leather. Split it to about 2/3 full thickness and got the leather wet and stitched. There is a good video on it that 3rivers did on YouTube.
