looking for large diameter bamboo
« on: August 30, 2014, 02:27:31 pm »
Hi guys,  I just recently got into building native american flutes out of bamboo but I want to build a some larger, deeper ones. So I was wondering if anyone has any bamboo that is 3 feet or longer and has an inside diameter of 1"-2". Ideally I'm looking for a longer distance between the nodes and no cracking. Let me know if anyone has any. I have some stuff to trade, let me know what your looking for.  -Cody

Here's what I got.
The two larger pieces may work for you.

The longest one is 73-1/2" long 1.9" O.D. and 1.3 I.D. with 8.5"-10.5" node spacing

The shorter one is 39" long 1-3/4" O.D. and about 1.4" I.D. with 9"-9.5" node spacing

Those two larger pieces are well dried and solid with no splits

The far left piece in these pics is a piece of cane that may work also if the diameter is not too small.
I call it cane because it has no flat spots between the nodes, it's thin walled and the nodes are really stretched out.
It is 72.5" long, 1.4" O.D. with 1/8" wall thickness approx. The nodes are spaced at 21.5", 20", and 22" apart.
