One of the Most Recent .... hickory heartwood
« on: August 28, 2014, 04:50:21 pm »
Board came from my local hardwood supplier.  It was in the "hickory" bin, but there's no way that's what the wood is.  It's quite dense and dark color.  Some sorta tropical?

ntn: 62"
width: 2" @ fade, tapering to 1/2" @ tip
thickness: began life @ 1/2" from fade to tip, now it's less near fades and about same for last 6" to tips
37# @ 26"

Brown paper wrapping for backing.  Graphic was copied from recent posting on PA, but now I can't find the original to give due credit.

Recurve has been laying on the rack since this one was finished.

Thanks for looking, and the help to get to this point!
Michael

Who cares what wood it is, NICE BOW!
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.

+1.

My supplier offers what they call "heart hickory" and its definitely darker.  Kinda looks like your pics.  Did it smell like hickory?
Bow looks great; nice paint job.  Glad to hear you're having fun with it :)

Great looking bow and tiller. Looks like heartwood to me, the only way I know how to tell is to use it for BBQing. ;)

If you have to pull the trigger, is it really archery?

Thanks, fellas, for the kind words.  So, will refer to it as hickory heartwood.
I was lucky on this bow as it was virtually tillered off the table saw.

Nice work Michael. I agree, it looks like hickory to me.
