Benedikts "Redheart", 46#@28"
« on: August 12, 2014, 09:15:54 am »
I was quite inactive in here for the last weeks, but now my last classtest are finished and i have holidays, so i'm looking forward to contribute more to this community in the next time.

But even if there would be a thousand classtest, nothing could take away bowmaking from me  ;D
This was a piece i was working on with utmost care, because its not a bow for me :)
And im really happy how this piece of blacklocust-heartwood turned out!
I hope you like it too  :)

Data:
Material: black locust, grenadill(overlays), padouk(applications on the tips), shed snake skin on the back of the handle
Lenght:(ntn) 62"
Drawweight:46#@28"
Weight: 538g
Set: 1 3/4 "

Enjoy the pics :)

Regards,
Benedikt

Use imgur: drag and drop uploading, no intrusive adds, made by and for people who don't like other sites' hassle, fast, reliable, in-site editing (that automatically resizes photos to be compatible with this site upon opening the image for editing, which makes quick work because you can highlight any/all images you want and just spam the next button to resize them all). And it's free.

Great looking snake shed, and I especially like the two-tone tips!

I have to wonder though, how are you keeping those cut pin knots safe?

Black locust. Black locust everywhere.

Might as well make them short, save some wood to keep warm.

Schöner Bogen.  I lived for a while in Anaberg and in Hohenstein, near where you are now, by your profile.  Beautiful area--I love the Erzgebirge.

Thank you guys :)

@huisme: Te knot is not cut, altough it looks like a bit.
Usually i just follow the grain around knots like these, and if during tillering or shooting a little crack appears, i glue on a linen patch(I hope its called like this ;D ) and make a coil with center serving garn around it :)

The darker spots around that knot are definitely end grain peaking out, so while the ring might not be violated there is definitely some grain violation. Certainly could last; I have a couple from my more reckless builds that I accidentally cut and didn't bother patching, but I have just as many that blew during tillering for the same reason.
