Well its been a few day's but Zac was able to come by and work on his bow some.  He finished up removing the last of the sap wood then I started him on the use of my scraper. When he got the hang of it I worked down the end of the stave so I could explain to him what he had to do and what to look for on chasing a ring. I only done about 2 in of the ring then gave it to him. He really took his time and after about a half hour he was able to pick out his ring and know when he was hitting early growth. I was watching him and he was even able to follow it around a pin not without any assistance.  He didn't get a lot done but what he did do was really nice work.  He slicked off about one limb worth. Then my buddy's came by and we shot a few bows and had a few drinks. It was a good time. Here are some pics. Patrick

I'm going to keep this updated as kind of a build along for Zac's first bow.  I may rename it as well. There will be about a 2 week delay because I'm going to Florida. Patrick

I would like to find where to get a good stave in Central IL?
Check out the fence/property lines out in the countryside. Ask the property owner first of course. Or buy one on this here internet.
Can anyone recommend a good book  to get started? Have you looked into Bowyers Bible or the local library?
Any suggestions?
Try to make friends with a bowyer near you, hands on mentoring is priceless.
