My #1 2014 Hunting Arrow
« on: August 06, 2014, 09:27:23 pm »
Hey guys,
TRACY gifted me some of the sharpest hunting points I have ever had.  Kentucky Blue to boot (go wildcats). ;D  So I had to haft one of them on the best shooting target arrow (matching the weight) I had.   Can't wait to use it on the first deer of the year.  Sorry for the bad pics, but I hope you get the picture..... ::) ;D ;D

A few details of the arrow.....
Tonkin cane from Eddie (Mullet)
three fletch turkey feathers thread wrapped
Cock feather dyed with black cherry Kool Aid (Idea from Osage Outlaw)
Self nocks reinforced with artifical sinew
Point hafted with artifical sinew and faux pitch (5 min epoxy and charcoal dust)
Tracer feathers...maribo feathers from Cabelas

Thanks again TRACY!! :)
Till next time
DBar

Thats a work of art.  It will almost be a shame to get blood on that arrow  ;D   Tracy makes a deadly point
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

I love the arrow, it's really awesome.  Very nice looking point as well.  But I have a question about the marabou. Why did you add marabou? And how did you attach it to the shaft because now I want to?! It looks cool! Also does it effect the flight?  Patrick

Thank for the nice comments, I really like makin arras.....

Patrick,
With the natural turkey feathers the arrows can not be seen very well, especially in the woods.  I want to see exactly where I hit the deer for tracking reasons.  The marabou feathers helps a lot with this.  I've used pink for target arrows and they really show up.  It gives some of the guys I shoot with a very visible target to shoot at.  ;D ;D
As far as attaching, all I do is tie them down with thread and then trim with a sharp pair of scissors.
Marabou is so light and soft, as far as I can tell it doesn't effect the flight at all, if any thing it creates a very little drag and helps with stabilizing the arrow in flight.
Thanks again,
DBar

You make some sweet arrows Bill. This one with Tracy's point is pure arrow art, looking forward to seeing the unlucky
whitetail that takes that one through the ribs.

Bill, I think that might just work >:D Real glad you could use those points. Got more if you run out. That is a beautiful arrow you made, as usual, and you know how to use it ;D Can't wait to see the harvest pic. Thanks Clint , Greg and Pearly.

Nice one Bill!  Another example of arrow art, built with a purpose that I cant wait to see the results of.  Most people would hang an arrow that nice on the wall, but I suspect this one may end up across a set of antlers when it gets retired.
