Osage bow for my niece
« on: August 03, 2014, 10:33:28 pm »
I just finished a bow for my niece.  She has been shooting her cousins bow a lot so I thought I would make her one for her birthday next month.  The bow is osage, 48" long and 20 lbs @ 20".  She should have room to grow with it for a while.  It finished out dead flat.  It has a bit of a dog leg in the upper limb.  The skins are some kind of small water snakes.  She was with me when I caught them.  She was catching bluegills off the dock while I was catching snakes out of a bush on the lake shore.  The bow was finished with 6 coats of tung oil.  I'm not sure what type of wood the overlays are.  I used some leather that matched them for the handle.  The string is 8 strands of pink and purple with some white strands padding the loops.  I put an over sized floppy rest on it.  I'm not sure if she cants the bow or not.

Clint, each bow you build gets better than the last. Little, big it doesn't matter, all beautiful, well built bows.  8)

Sweet bow, Clint. Those skins turned out great!
