Back Quiver, More photos!

Not completely done, But I am pleased so far. Can anyone tell me how I can dye wool? This ended up much larger than I expected. Input on a strap would be nice as well. I intended to sew it and then turn it wool side in, but I like the look.

Any of the fabric dies should do the job.  You can also boil a pot full of osage shavings for bright yellow dye.

I would love that, How much shavings? I burned about a 5 gallon bucket full last night, man that stuff burns good.

About a gallon of shavings packed into a 2 gallon pot, add enough water to cover.  Slow simmer for a couple hours, then strain. 

If you add a cup of vinegar it will help "fix" the dye.  Now this is a natural dye and it will fade over time.  Doesn't mean it can't be reapplied.

I will once I get the shavings again. This was a full sized blanket. It was on the seat of my truck (work truck) at work. I had to move my truck out of the shop. I asked everyone at work if it was theirs, and no one claimed it. I was going to grab it anyway, but Thursday I found it on the ground by where the truck was parked, soaked as it has been really wet. I laid it over one of our snow plows to dry, and went into the shop and picked it up today. It is completely dry, but a little dirty. My fingers are really sore from sewing it. I also put goat leather around the top, suede side out.

Here are some updated photos of the strap for it. The way I made it it can be used as a hip quiver or a back quiver. I used more sheepskin, some more goat leather, some black saddle leather, deer antler, and elk antler. I need to work on some staves to get some more Osage shavings, but I am also thinking black would be cool. My fingers hate me today.

Pink would be ok, I'm man enough to rock it.  :laugh: I attempted to dye it black today, problem is, now its dark purple, and it shrunk some. The strange part is that I dyed 2 of them, and one barely took any dye, and it shrunk A LOT. Is this normal?
