Most of us know what kind of guy he is - down to earth, generous, good sense of humor, hard working, man's man. Even if you've never met him, you can probably tell where his passion is just by reading his posts. Many bows have come through his hands and this one is no exception. So, when he gifted me this stick at the classic, I knew I was gonna enjoy working on it.
He kept talking about how dark that piece of Osage was and eventually when he split it he handed half to me. There's no question that this was some primo stuff even if it was a bit narrow on one end. I carefully took it down a few rings, then laid out the bow and went to work.
After inducing a little reflex, the build went really quick and I was able to take this bow from stick to target in a matter of a few hours of work. A few minor tillering adjustments later and I decided to leave this bow plain and simple. I did build up the handle with cork and wrapped it with soft chrome tanned leather. Other than that, 4 coats of Formby's best and a dyna97 string are it's only adornments.
This sliver of Osage is rarely over an inch wide for its entire length and still gives 55# @ 28". The somewhat rough finish and minor longitudinal cracks in this bow keep it humble, but there are no bad marks for its performance! It's fast with a solid thump! Thanks again, Clint, that was a nice gift!
