Sleek, I'm not sure on the species of elm. I am in southern Michigan if that helps. It was my first time using elm. I could get some pictures of the bark from one of my other staves posted. I used a mahagony minwax stain and wipe on poly finish. I have been shooting it for the last week or so and it is very snappy and isn't too picky about random arrow spine.

Any pics would be helpful. Id love to id this species. Also a pic of the end grain of a stave to show rings and pith would help also.

How wide is the bow at the fades  and tips? I have several winged elm staves ready to work and would like to have a feel for dimensions.

I have made a couple of elm bows but they came out lighter than yours.

Asharrow, To tell you the truth I did no measuring when building this bow other than to mark the center of the bow. I would say it is about 1 5/8 at the fades and maybe 3/8ths at the tips. Sleek I will try to get some pictures of the remaining log (not split yet) this weekend.
