Did you cut across the back of the knot?
Osage is tough but I did see a friend's osage break there.

I lightly rasped off any loose stuff, the hole is much bigger from the belly side. The knots bulge up a fair bit so the wood is thicker. I was a bit nervous when I had to keep thinning it to get the draw weight down.

Note:- you can see the L L L for "leave" pencilled near the edge where there is dip in the grain.
