Hickory with sinew flatbow 34lbs/28"

My first semi composite bow,
hickory +sinew,wood its not very good
lenght at groves to groves on curve-55 inch
draw weight- 34 lbs-28"(max-29")
horn plate and leather grip,
painting with natural varnish, finished schelack
bow weight -360 gram
reflex in rest-6"
reflex after drawing- 4,1/2 "
Bh-11,5 cm
dacron+ff string

That's a very good looking bow. Just a bit curious, what was wrong with the wood?

Yeah maybe, but I got the impression that he sinewed it because he thought it wouldn't hold up otherwise. I don't know, just curious is all. It's entirely possible that I misinterpreted his post.

Anyway, that's some good looking finish work. I like the two-tone look.

I dont know how one could think hickory wont stand the stress, i have some test piece of hickory (roghly shaped bow) and i can bend the limb i one place almost 90 degrees and only few splinters appeared, but still almost whole thikness of wood is in one piece,  just bent. I was amazed about the characteristics of this wood. I dont even see the possibility of breaking properly designed hickory bow... but i can be wrong since ive made only 3 hickory selfbows...

I agree, which is why I was curious. Hickory is about as tough as they come.

Hi i write that wood doesnt be very good because
stave at start have 1inch deflex.have 3 place after knot and one arm doesnt be ideal curve.
