It's been awhile sense I've posted, lots of change going on this side of the cascades:)

As some of you know me and Gabe started a bow swap last September. It's been hard to find time to work on any bows lately. Luckily! I finished this bow months ago:)

I roughed this sapling out back in November, and like most yew staves I've dealt with, it dried into deflex:/
No matter what I did to heat the deflex out, it would never take. And would just end up going right back...oh well.
Barely made it through this build with enough heartwood to push back against the set it wanted to take. All and all I'm satisfied with the way this bow came out.
Sturgeon skin patch over a knot I thought might become a problem.

65"NTN

Cow horn underlays
Abalone inlayed strike plate.
John Strunk skeleton lace pattern.

Other than the big crack that bow is awesome, seriously nice craftsmanship Pincone.

Nice work as usual Bryce :) the full draw is nice but the half moon is HORRIBLE! Kinda takes away from the whole thing...  :-\

You turned out a great bow despite the stave. You sure pushed the envelope on those hooks. Nice work, buddy.  8)

With those hooks that bow would shoot well with 10" of deflex. Nice work.  8)

I have lots of yew branches, what diameter of branch
would you think is too small. How beefy was this branch?

1. Thanks for the pic of you.  The image I had in my head of you was way off.   They say sex sells anything but in this case I think the bow would sell itself.

2.  SWEET BOW.  How did you get the recurves that deep?

The pics on the phone didn't do it justice compared with these! That thing is just plain awesome!  I need to add a few exclamation marks !!!!!  Can't wait to get my hands on that baby, although I'll have to figure out how to string it.  Any more reflex and I could use it as a shepards crook.

Bryce my friend, this has been an awesome trade.

What's too funny, is that I almost did a strunk style handle wrap on mine, (which would have probably looked better) but I figured you have one or two of those already so I tried something different.  If I'd have done that, these bows could have been sisters :)

Did I mention that I can't wait for it to get here?

Yins guys shoulda just kept the bows ya made for your selves seeing how ya both made yew deflex recurves... ;D

And I guess the half moon is fitting with the half draw  :-\  :-[ ...  :laugh:

And why does yew deflex itself a lot after cutting it out? Even if it is dry? And especially more so if it isn't  ??? I still haven't found any "definitive" scientific reasons for it..although I do have my own "opinions" on the matter  ;D

Anyways....sweet hooks on that baby ;) should be silky buttery smooth to draw
