Best website to buy bow staves?
« on: July 06, 2014, 09:32:41 pm »
I have just finished my first bow, but it is too light to legally hunt with in my state. I want to be able to have a serviceable hunting bow by hunting season in the fall. I don't really have enough time to cut down my own, wait for it to dry, etc. also, there isn't a lot of good bow wood around here. So, where do you people buy your staves at. I'm mainly looking for white woods because at my level of expertise I think ring chasing would be too much to take on. Thanks for all replies!

Ross, by an osage stave, ring chasing is easy. I buy them on e ebay all the time for between $40 and $50. Just take you time and ask questions here. If you screw up on the first ring you can just go down one more. By the time you get done you will have figured out how to do it.

Where you live?  Might be able to get a stave from someone nearby.
Enjoy the hunt!  Mitch

If you have anything to trade, make a post in the trading post.
Someone, me included would trade a stave or 2 for the right stuff!

Whoever told ya northwest Ohio doesn't have any good bow wood around lied to you....and in an hours time easy u can go find a whitewood(hickory,elm,etc...etc...)sapling and have it reduced to near bow dimensions and quick dry it,and shooting it a month later easy peasy..

Good idea, Blackhawk. Ross, cut a sapling. I'll post some directions for a sapling bow, if you want.

While you are waiting, get a red oak board stave and have it.

If you are wanting to buy staves Echo Archer has a good selection. You can search for his web site or contact CMB on PA.
