Bug damaged osage

I thought I would share a few pictures of some bug damaged osage I cleaned up today. I just wanted to show how bad a stave can look and yet still be solid inside. In the past I would have thrown this stave in my fire ring. The back is nothing but worm trails and tunnels. It turns to powder if you hit it.
I split off the top 1.5" and found good solid wood. There is the bottom of one tunnel left but it will be removed when I chase a ring.

It would be nice if they just feasted on the sap wood! Is it wide enough for two?

Wished they all worked out that good, nice save. for me it sometimes works out like that but a lot of the time them buggers will bore right down through the middle and then to make it worse go length wise,so you never know where they went until you get the hole out, then after all that ,ant enough wood left for a bow.Hate them things.

Looks good now! Is that some of the destiny osage?

Yep. That was the last piece to clean up. I think I have all the bug infested wood out of my shop now.

This is a great topic to show how bad it can look and still get something out of it

Yep. Place borer on osage skewer, roast for 20-30 seconds over hot coals, then enjoy while still warm and crunchy.
