Yeah there is a very clear seam on these Tudor heads.  The socket is rolled exactly like a standard bodkin.

Hello WillS, thanks for your fast reply and the confirmation, that the heads were not forge welded.

So, the hypothesis of forging a kind of flattned bodkin and forming it in a swage seams to be apropriate...
If I find time I will try to make some. Another project waiting  :D

by the way, i searched for the video of simon stanley forging this head and found a short sequence on youtube (not sure if it's allowed to post it here).
he makes the heads by forming a flattened bodkin in the swage and then grinding the edges away...
