bamboo tri-lam bow.......
« on: June 19, 2014, 10:53:05 pm »

thought I'd like to share with all PA one of my recent bows…….
I like in South East Asia and lucky to have access to really hard mature boo with node measuring 16 to 19”.
I have made a few of these over recent years , The bow lay up is boo, hard maple core and hard Asian belly chengal (the chengal is only 1200 hardness, I feel not hard enough, thus I lost much reflex)
Glue up 5” reflex and after 300 shots, I has kept 1-2 inch reflex.
Its 58" n-n.     42lbs@24"

Hope you all find it interesting..... ;D....RT

dry glue up.

Reflex mode dry glue up...

The real thing........

4 inch brace

At 22".....2" more to go........

Don those are wedges used to apply tension in the glueup
failure is an option, everyone fails, it's how you handle it that matters.

great looking bow Robin.....that really is strong bamboo...thanks for the sample slats you sent me....I can confirm, that this bamboo is far harder than the chinese moso bamboo I have benn using untill now....I'd say it is getting close to being twice as hard as moso...I'm looking forward to trying it out ..and I'll keep you all informed how it goes.

I need bamboo as well! My supplier has moved over 500 miles away  :'(

Nice looking bow  :)
I also use the wedges method for some of my glue-ups.

Hi Mike,

If you need some of there hard boo, can you write to me on robintan188@gmail.com

As i harvest my own boo, i cannot supply large qty, but anything from 5 to 10 pcs is still manageable for me.
I am very confident that you wont need much as these mature boo species are very "hard" boo as they have very thick "power fibres" and  very hard to lift a splinter(see pics on the power fibres).............off course you need to know what you are doing.  >:D

 we will definitely work some thing out...... ;
