New Leather Armguard

Just finished this up. I wanted to make one that was easy to put on. A bit thick and garish but it should work.

Well the dimensions are 8 from wrist to elbow then 9x5.  I tooled the oak leaves punched the stitching holes then glued the back piece of leather rough side out.  Colored up to the tooling with Light Brown leather dye then used a damp sponge and tried to get the black to look faded in.  Fail on that.  Then saddle tan antique gel for the leaves.

I stitched it all with the straps in between going opposite directions.  Punched a hole for the brass posts then screwed those on.  I punched through both pieces front and back so that when the hole gets loose I can unscrew it and go up a size.  Just punch a hole in the strap a little smaller than the post and cut slits a little bit up and down that hole and it'll snap right onto the post.  Way easier to put on than lacing.

Finished it off with Neatsfoot oil.  It'll last forever and if I get fatter I can punch another hole in the strap to make it bigger.  Haha :-[

The colors are great and I like the design.  One of the better ones I have seen  8)

Nice job.  Even though the black didn't fade in like you had planned, it still looks good to me.

I have yet to find a dependable way to nicely blend two colors together without the use of an airbrush.  If you figure out a way, be sure to let us know ;)

The blending part is difficult.  Next time I think I'll try black antique gel and see if that will blend easier.   An airbrush would make things easier for sure.
