longbow tillering
« on: April 03, 2012, 09:54:53 pm »
hi this is my first post, ive been making yew longbows on and off for a few years now,and only just now ive just started on ash longbows, i dont like the wood (you dont get the same buzz as when working with yew lol)anyway this is my point on a longbow the top limb is weaker than the lower limb,it bends more towards you, none of this circular tillering. the upper limb bends more to the archer am i correct on this and if so what are the reasons for this strange tillering process,is it because you draw with 2 or 3 fingers below the center of the bow,so you are putting more strain on the lower limb...when i make my bows the upper limb is about a quarter inch more bendy when braced if that makes sense.
