I found a grove of smaller trees,maybe 25' being the tallest and I was hoping it's white elm.the pic shows 2 trees out of the same root ,the larger is about 5" at the butt and 3" for the smaller.there are a lot of elm that grow in a nearby town and are easy to I'd when large.thx's Rob!

Thx's 4 the replies guys! I live in southern manitoba and these tree's are growing in the southern estuary of lake winnipeg (swamp turf) and the leaves have been out for about aweek

Might be a Siberian elm. A lot of American Elms died to Dutch Elm's disease in MB. American elms have asymmetrical leaves too, which this doesn't.

Pick the small diameter saplings bushy, you wont regret it. Build some bows from full staves and build some from saplings. See what you find.
