Biggest knife yet, and cool point
« on: May 28, 2014, 09:58:50 pm »
This knife is from some landscape supply stone that I heat treated.  The stone for the point I picked up from scrap at a knapp-in.  Please tell me what it is?

The smaller point looks to me like Novaculite.  It`s normally used heated from what little I know,  all I`ve had to work with I got from Ed Moser at the knapin he holds every fall at the family farm in Monon, IN.   When worked raw it takes a fine (sturdy) edge that`ll take some use before needing resharpening.

I agree the smaller one is novaculite. The knife looks like some tough Edwards chert.   It will turn to butter with a lil heat.

If that top one is chert, I REALLY need to go find some chert. The smaller one is amazing too. So cool.

That's what they are, Edwards and novac. Nice stuff!
