It's a maple, but I'm not sure if it is hard or soft.

Pretty sure the 3 main veins on the leaf is a sugar maple. Would help if you shared your location though

My guess is that it is black maple (Acer nigrum) -- which looks very similar to sugar maple, but is slightly different. It could be either, but the combination of bark/leaf appearance makes me think black.

They're similar trees and can hybridize. Similar in hardness in well, with sugar (Acer saccharum) being somewhat harder.

Either will make a good bow I imagine.
