You can fill out the section you cut out with leather,patience and superglue. It will set rock hard and you can then shape your handle properly and carry on.

Why not keep it and shoot it? I shoot on the right side of the bow, but I still think it is fun to shoot on the left side too. It doesn't make a huge difference for me anymore, and it is fun to mix it up once and while, .

Can you sand it out and use a leather wedge or just rest the arrow on your hand?
I stopped using rests of any sort and restt he arrow on my hand at the top of the the handle's leather covering.

I never do any work to the handle, other than rounding the edges, till I have finished tillering the bow.  To me it's just bad mojo

I'm the opposite. I like to practically shape the handle first of all. I like to feel the bow develop from that point out.

I usually don't work on the handle really at all till the bow is able to brace height. I figure, heck, what would it hurt to shape it out and start cutting the rest. I could still shoot it off hand if I wanted.  It would be no problem. I see how that it could be bad mojo to cut it early.

Do you have a picture?  Are we talking just arrow rest here, or did you cut out a shelf into the handle?    If so, hey, live and learn but if it could just be made into a bow without a rest at all...build it up later!

This is one I'm working on using inexpensive cork pads from the hobby store...
It's easy to shape and glue then just put your wrap over it.

It is a shelf, I don't have a picture of it.  I have been at work and haven't been to the shop where I make the bows in a few days. Maybe this weekend I may have time to work on it some more and I will get some pictures.

You could also just cut the whole side off the handle and then build up that side with a lamination or two and then reshape.
 I think it is Eric Krewson who has repaired some bows that have a handle that looks like a jigsaw puzzle there are so many pieced together fragments.
