Clint that curly osage is really something!  I had never seen any like that.  Can't wait to see it finished up.  I am still working on a couple that I started at the classic that are from old gnarly fencepost staves that I would have given away if Danzn Bar hadn't convinced me that they would make a bow.  I think he was right on both of them.

You were pretty mean with that knife Howard made short work on what I seen you working on.

I shot that little walking stick bow some earlier today.  It was such a crooked stick - I had to heat it and bend it several times before it was through.  Turned out pretty cool.  I will post it as soon as the weather clears up.  Here is a pic of the way it looked last week after it's first heat treating. It has come a long way in a week.

I didn't notice it when I cut it.  In fact, I didn't notice it until this spring when I was going through my staves.

That bow is looking good Howard.  Looks like a challenging piece of wood.

I have wanted a bow that had tight grained curly maple through its length. That Osage is an awesome piece of wood. Best of both worlds...can't wait to see it finished.

Do you know how it was cut to get that grain?

I am anxious to see that curly wood bow all slicked up Clint.  That grain is killer. 
I have had fun rasslin a bow out of it.  Blackhawk told me it looked like a walking stick.  It had bad prop twist, holes, snakes, deflex, reflex, cracks, and a whoopty do - like a ride at the fair!

I cut it and split it into staves just like every other tree I have cut.  It was over a year before I realized it had the curly grain.  I glued tip overlays on it tonight.  I hope to get the tips thinned and the handle finished tomorrow.

Clint, have you noticed this 'curly' responding differently in any way? tension, compression, elasticity, etc
