elk in the yard
« on: May 08, 2014, 10:11:52 am »
We had a first ever event this morning with two young bull elk crossing the county road and coming right into the yard.  We could see the beginnings of this year's horns.  They evidently had been chased away from their herd and kept looking back as they came across the field and into the yard.  They were continually making their "I'm lost" crys!  We had a 12" snow storm night before last and there were several large herds of elk in the horse pasture across the county road yesterday!  This morning the elk we could see were scattered out, some alone and some in groups of two or three.  That's not the usual behavior so based on past experience there must have been some wolf activities during the night in the deep snow.  I have some pictures, but don't know how to post them!  Seems no matter how many elk I have seen in my life I still really enjoy watching them!  Joe
