This has been a very cool experience to be involved in and like the symbolism that jw has discovered in the process beginning the painting. Eric's son was our "hunter" that placed the dart in the horse that brought the painting to an end symbolizes the importance of the youngest within our group.
Our paints this year were made from baked clay, yellow mud like stone, iron oxide made by Derick, charcoal and white made from cooking clam shells. Stones were hammered on the surface to clean it to a lighter color. Brushes were made from branches and roots from trees in the area. These branches were pounded on the end to create individual fibers. Most of these paints, less the charcoal had shell water poured from the top of the white paint. The idea is to see if the red paint will bind to the wall like the white did last year. We all have learned a lot from the process and I hope we are allowed to continue this new tradition in this special place. Thank you Pappy and miss Joanie for the honor.
