Made an air filtration unit
« on: May 04, 2014, 11:05:21 pm »
I've been looking for an air filtration system for my small shop for a while now.  They are just to expensive for me to buy one.  After looking online for some ideas I decided to make one.  I used a furnace blower, some aluminum drip edge, and every piece of lumber scrap I could find in my garage.  I had to use my tillering stick to finish it up.

I built the frame and used the drip edge for a channel to hold the filter.

I cut all the pieces to enclose it.

I mounted the frame to the ceiling

Installed the blower

Then I enclosed it and it was done.  I have a temporary cord on it.  I want to hard wire it in and put a switch on the side.  It doesn't have a remote or multiple speeds like the expensive ones do but it moves a lot of air and will definitely keep my shop and my lungs cleaner.

I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Good stuff. I have done stuff like that before, once used an old stove fan apron and mounted it above my work area and vented it outside.

Some of the best things are built by Red Necks! Very nice, now if I could just build one in my garage! Patrick

You'll want a filter outside the squirrel cage Yoder. If not, you will blow dust back out of every nook and cranny in that box. It appears your trying to blow dirty air into the box then blow it back through a filter. Add one pre blower and keep the post blower filter in as well.

The filter is on the intake side Pearly.  The blower is on the opposite end.

It really moves the air.  When I first turned it on it started to suck the filter back into the box.  I had to install a back support to hold it in place.
