osage stave with a large knot. what can I do?

I was wondering if I could go around this not with the limbs. Or should in just cut it down past the knot?  My draw length is 28"  I could probably go down to 26" if needed.  It is 63" long 2 1/2" wide and 2" tall.  The knot is about 3-4" from the end. Let me know what you all think.  Thanks. Tim

You could probably eliminate the knot or at least the outside half leaving a little squiggly spot there..

as long as the wood beside it is fine, leave that puppy out. There is no reason to keep it in there,it would give the bow more handshock as well as reducing cast.

  Thats a pretty nice clean piece of wood by the way :)

Thanks y'all...I was hoping you'd say that.  Is there any reason I cant go ahead and shape some of it now. I need to let It season for a couple years I just like to get a plan together early in the game. Its been cut for about two months now.

absolutely.  get it ready to floor tiller and it will dry alot faster.  im not sure where i stand on "seasoned" vs "dry", but if you're itching to build a bow... you can have it dry enough inside of a month using a slapped together hotbox. 
and id just snake right around that knot.

Follow the grain around it or leave it,really up to you. I have done them both way. Pretty cool with the knot hole in it,I really haven't found them to be all that shocky
when left,if you think about it you take the wood off to either side and if you measure the limb minus the hole you don't have much more wood than a straight limb bow, and it is in ,or about in a non bending area, at least for me it would be so shouldn't be a problem. :) Nice piece of wood. :)

Yup...agree with pappy....ya can go either way n it'll be fine,and done it both ways myself....since its basically all clean besides that spot id personally eliminate it and follow the grain around it
