Holey Moley
« on: April 18, 2014, 10:09:27 pm »
Just finished up my first real character bow.  Stave looked clean but as i worked down to a good ring i got into "Holey Moley" territory.  She's 65" ntn and 47#@ 28".  Took a hair of set on the lower limb where it has that twisty stuff going on and the belly couldn't be as flat, but the string sits against the handle as soon as you unstring it so i call that fine by me.  there was a hairline crack inside the biggest knot hole and while it didn't extend to the back or belly, i didn't like the look of it so i sinew wrapped it for insurance.   shoots surprisingly sweet for as nasty as she looks.  The wood was so cool that i left her unadorned except for the deer antler rest.  Thanks for looking.

Talking trees. What do trees have to talk about, hmm... except the consistency of squirrel droppings?

You were very lucky to find that stave!  Most trees with that kind of character were long ago cut down to make pegboard!   >:D

Do the holes whistle when you shoot?
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.

Some pretty serious character bow there. You made a really neat bow out of that holey stave.
