i need an opinion!
« on: April 08, 2014, 12:47:07 am »
I'm thinking of bidding on this. I'm not sure about this but I can't find any osage were I live that's not crazy twisted. It's 63" long 1 1/2"-2" wide and 2" high. What do y'all think. Can the twist be taken out?

Yep no problem, nothin a little heat won't fix, looks like a pretty good stave, decent rings and fairly clean.

I thought you said it was twisted, that's pretty straight

My take; the early wood late wood ratio looks pretty good on one end but poor on the other, that big embedded limb near the end of the stave may be a problem, you won't know until you take the bark and sapwood off. 63" is pretty short, you can get a 62" bow with pin nocks or about a 61" bow with conventional nocks. Your draw length will determine if this stave is right for you. If you draw 25-27" it will be just fine, any longer draw, it will be a little short unless you make a bendy handle bow or sinew it.

Like everyone else has stated, that's a pretty decent osage stave. Most osage in my area is only good for billets (straightest sections are only about 3 ft.). Good staves  are few and far between.
That one won't need much work to straighten.

That's not twist, Chubby Checker wouldn't have no truck with that...
