Walnut Shoots - Good Arrows?

I know Walnut can make a heavy draw bow - And often a brittle one to.

Does anyone know if this holds true with shoots used for shafts?

I've avoided walnut for shoot shafts, because it has a rather large pith. Never tried it, so the pith might not matter.

I prefer second year growth for shafting and a second year walnut shoot would make a good spear shaft.

They make a heavy spine arrow, but have not had much success with them not breaking...They are brittle..

I figured they would be, most people talk about walnut itself being brittle under pressure.

Welp I'm sure I'll find something I can do with em later.

I've made arrows from black walnut heartwood with good results.

I've not compared it with the sapwood. The heartwood shafts I got were from Ken75. He turned them and sent me a few. I made a few "primitive" type arrows and a few fluflus.

Never tried Walnut,  getting fed up with Douglas fir,  just to many grain issues...Uhgggggg :P  will probably have to stcik with poplar.   Although have not tried oak or maple yet.
Carefull now don't breathe the dust from black walnut.. >:D
