Tiller check

So this is the first bow I started from a stave, got thrown in the corner. 51" long, pulling 54# @22", going for 28". It's got a knot and reflex in one limb.

Have to agree with Bhawk,that is asking a lot from a prefect stave of that length,looks pretty good where you are at now. :)

I agree that it looks good so far and also agree that 28" draw is really pushing it for most of us on that short of a bow.
I know that 25" to 26" would be the limit for me  but many others have the knack and could pull it off. Is that black locust? If so your really gonna have to have the stress spread out evenly I would think. Nice work getting that tricky stave to where you have it pulling now.

28" for a 51" bow is excessive for any unbacked wood. Will it break? Doubt it. But it will be an overworked set ridden dog. Keep her around 23-24" and give it to a deserving soul. That's my opinion anyway. Tiller looks close from what I see.

The 52" osage static handle bow I have only pulls about 37# @28 and I know thats pretty stressed for my little squirrel sticker! I bet if you dropped the weight down to 35-40 pounds you could get a good bendy handle without much issue. even with that knot hole mid limb on mine its still shooting fine.

Thanks guys. I think I'm gonna keep the little fella, I'll make some short arrows for it. I'm gonna try and get some weight off though.
